ACE Asphalt Fibers-Asphalt Concrete Reinforcement is a high performance engineered fiber system for asphalt that increase service life, save costs, add strength to asphalt pavement in all directions.

As ACE Asphalt Fibers® are mixed into the hot mix asphalt, and the Sasobit® wax melts, over 18 million Aramid Fibers are dispersed throughout each ton of hot mix asphalt which provides 3-dimensional reinforcement that increases the asphalt’s resistance to reflective cracking, rutting, and fatigue while providing improved life expectancy. And best of all, no specialty contractors are needed for installation. Asphalt Producers and Pavers handle hot mix asphalt reinforced with ACE Fibers® the same way they handle standard hot mix asphalt.



How does ACE XP Polymer Fiber make asphalt more durable?

Many fibers have been successfully used to reinforce asphalt, but it takes a special polymer fiber to successfully reinforce 350 degree asphalt. Aramid is a unique polymer fiber with 400,000 psi tensile strength and micro-roots that tenaciously anchor themselves in the bitumen of the asphalt. In the summertime when asphalt gets hot and wants to rut, the rooted aramid provides resistance to the “flow” of asphalt to mitigate rutting. In the wintertime when asphalt is cold and wants to shrink, aramid provides added tensile strength for resistance to cracking. The bottom line is that polymers fibers in asphalt now make sense because of aramid, and for relatively low cost, ACE XP makes a big performance improvement in asphalt.



Testing on ACE XP has produced results showing 140% increase in crack resistance and 60% increase in rut resistance.  Aramid has also been the subject of numerous U.S. and international asphalt performance studies over the past 15 years. Fiber additives for A.C. have a history dating back more than 40 years, but it has been the recent advancements in materials and the way pavement researchers test and quantify performance that has confirmed the predictability and reliability of aramid for A.C. pavements. The combination of historical and recent research, testing, and case studies demonstrate the active material in ACE XP Polymer Fiber significantly enhances A.C pavement performance.

ACE XP Polymer Fiber provides extra performance for asphalt by increasing service life, saving costs, or a combination of both. Similar to certain fibers successfully used in concrete for decades, ACE XP Polymer Fiber is now used in asphalt to significantly increase performance of new aspha


ACE XP Polymer Fiber extends pavement service life by dramatically improving the dynamic modulus of the asphalt layer and increasing the asphalt’s resistance to cracking and rutting (distresses that may cause premature failure). To create ACE XP, high-strength man-made “aromatic polyamide” or Aramid Fibers are bundled and coated with Sasobit® wax to create an asphalt concrete additive that is simple to mix with any WMA or HMA in drum and batch asphalt operations. The 3-dimensional reinforcement throughout the asphalt layer increases the asphalt’s resistance to cracking, rutting, and fatigue while providing improved ESAL capacity. Any asphalt project can benefit from ACE XP including both newly constructed asphalt pavements as well as thin asphalt overlay projects over deteriorated asphalt or concrete pavements.
